The Off-page SEO checklist. Wow! Who knew that was even “a thing?” Well, for some, that term may seem like yet another piece of new digital-lingo, in an already confusing sea of digital lingo, but for those of us who live in this world, it’s a term that has been around for a while.

Off-Page SEO refers to the content that is not on your own website but is the content that appears on other websites that validates yours. However, while the content on your own site is of utmost importance when it comes to your search engine rankings, there is another aspect of SEO that should not be overlooked when it comes to strengthening your rankings and that is the SEO that shows up on sites other than your own, or the Off-Page SEO. Social media is probably the number one way to build your off-page SEO. When you use Facebook or Twitter or any other social media platform, you expand your reach beyond your own site which builds your off-page SEO. For example, when someone shares your content on Facebook or Twitter this gives your website a “credibility boost” and that “boost” helps your SEO rankings.

Content Marketing

If you have a blog (and you really should have one), then you have a great tool for getting your own content out there to other sites. As your blog is promoted via shares and tweets, this will only enhance your SEO. Press Releases

Press releases are another way to strengthen your off-page SEO. Press Releases aren’t just for BIG corporations making BIG announcements anymore. Press Releases can be used as a means of “weighing in” on news that is impacting your industry and can be a great way to attract attention from journalists looking for an interesting story.

Downloadable Documents

PDF files and White Papers are just two examples of documents that can be shared from your site. Linking these documents in shares and tweets are a great way to build your off-page SEO and re-direct traffic back to your site.

Online Business Directories

With recent updates from Google, Business Directory listings and become even more important than before. Sites such as Yelp and Google Plus have become valuable backlinks by helping to improve brand recognition, build trust with potential customers and help get you onto first page results with Google.
